One of the interesting facts that visitors may not know about Victorian Cape May, is that unlike beach towns to our north, Cape May was once part of the mainland before the canal was dug in 1942. That means our island is primarily of soil. You can walk off the Cape May beaches right into town and enjoy the lush gardens and walk in the shade of 300 year-old sycamores tree-lined streets.
Cape May, New Jersey is also the premier birding destination in New Jersey and North America...a rest stop for hundreds of species of migratory birds. Because Cape May is at the confluence of the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the birds find protected wetlands and shelter, food and water.
