AT ST. PHILIPS CHURCH
St. Philips in Paterson dates back to 1865 as the First German Methodist Episcopal Church. After closing its doors in the mid-60s, it was re-birthed in 1989 as a church in witness to the Northside community of Paterson. With the growing needs of homeless people, St. Philips Ministry developed programs to combat hunger and homelessness (www.stphilipsministry.org). Every day, the worship center of St. Philips is transformed into a soup kitchen, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are servedmore than 15,000 meals annually. Known as the Coffee Pot Ministry, this program serves as a lifeline to those in need and a gateway to positive change in their lives. West Side helps once a month by providing and serving an evening meal to all in need. The next visit will be December 8th. We meet in the West Side dining room at 4:45 p.m., carpool to Paterson, and return by 7:15 p.m.; kids are welcome, too. Cant join us but still want to be part of this ministry? Donate a vegetable, buy some bananas/fruit, or provide some paper plates. Just drop them off at West Side that morning or the day before.
