Hieromonk Michael, Bishop-Elect of the Dicoese of New York and New Jersey of the Orthodox Church in America, visits Saints Peter and Paul
Hieromonk Michael (Dahulich), the administrator of the Diocese of New York and New Jersey, and bishop-elect, visited on January 30th and 31st, celebrating Vespers and Divine Liturgy. Father Michael is currently the dean of students at St. Tikhon's Seminary, and will be made bishop after the conclusion of this semester.
"Theophany," also known as Epiphany, means "the shining forth and manifestation of God." Today, and on every January 6th, we celebrate the baptism of Our Lord in the Jordan River by John the Forerunner. He who is sinless identifies Himself with sinners by allowing himself to be baptized, thereby redeeming men from their transgressions. To commemorate Christ's baptism, water is blessed on the Eve of this Feast, known as the Great Blessing of Water. The faithful then bless their homes and churches with this Holy water.
Troparion of the Feast
When Thou, O Lord, wast baptized in the Jordan the worship of the Trinity was made manifest! For the voice of the Father bore witness to Thee, calling Thee His Beloved Son. And the Spirit, in the form of a dove, confirmed the truthfulness of His Word. O Christ our God, who hast revealed Thyself and hast enlightened the world, glory to Thee!
Kontakion of the Feast
Today Thou hast appeared to the universe, and Thy Light, O Lord, has shone on us, who with understanding praise Thee: Thou hast come and revealed Thyself, O Light Unapproachable!
Jim Sopchak, our beloved former webmaster's brother, has provided a beautiful memoir reflecting on Dr. Sopchak's life and achievements. You can view his memoir and photos here.
We will always remember John's faithful diligence to his ministries. It was through him that this parish website, including its comprehensive photographs, was created. Memory Eternal!
CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM!
Our pastor Emeritus, Father Serge Kuharsky, and his Matushka, Faith, joined in celebrating the Nativity Divine Liturgy. Also visiting from out of town was Subdeacon Joseph Shaluha and his wife Kyra.

The Saints Peter and Paul Festival held on October 24 was a huge success despite the rainy weather. It featured wonderful food and entertainment.
Thank you to all parishioners for your hard work and support!
Pierogi making in preparation for the Saints Peter and Paul Russian festival took place on several occasions, the most recent of which were on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. The volunteers pictured here worked long, full days to make thousands of pierogi, even staying up into the wee hours of the morning during the September session.
The committee responsible for organizing and managing this entire process was comprised of Sandy Saurman and Rebecca Kozak. Marie Mendoker wins the superlative of most dedicated pierogi pincher, arriving at the start of the day and leaving at the very end for two days in a row. When you see these volunteers (or any of the countless others who made this day possible), please be sure to give them a huge thank you for their dedication and hard work for the parish.
