Dollar Spot – a common New Jersey lawn fungus

Does your lawn have round, somewhat sunken brown or straw colored spots approximately the size of a silver dollar? If you said yes, your lawn might have Dollar Spot – a common fungus affecting turf in New Jersey. Infected areas of 4 inches or larger may run together, causing larger patches.

Dollar spot can be found from late spring through early fall especially in turf stressed by drought, soil compaction and/or thatch build up.

Dollar spot will usually grow out with proper watering and fertilizer. In some cases, a fungicide may be necessary to stop the disease from spreading.
