He has been a staff physician at the Hunterdon Medical Center since 1979 and is a member of Hunterdon Healthcare Partners.

Dr. Shapiro is also a qualified medical acupuncturist. He is one of the first 38 physicians in the State of New Jersey to pass the Proficiency Examination of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. And, he is one only a few physicians in New Jersey with hospital privileges in Medical Acupuncture. In February of 2001, Dr. Shapiro became one of the first 83 physicians in the United States to be board certified in Medical Acupuncture.
