The name Dancing Foot Yoga comes from the Shiva Nataraj, a famous image that commemorates the Lord Shivas dance of creation and being. The Nataraj, or Lord of the Dance, symbolizes the power within each person and the energy that dances within all of us. The cosmic dancers left foot, the Dancing Foot, is lifted in celebration gesturing to all to come and find the joy within.
Yoga is a tried and true method for developing a greater sense of well being
DFY offers ongoing yoga classes in Anusara, Iyengar and Ashtanga methods, beginning through advanced levels.
Benefits of Yoga
Anusara Yoga is heart-oriented, spiritually inspiring, and yet grounded in universal principles of alignment for both the inner and outer body. It is a uniquely integrated style of hatha yoga in which the artistic glory of the human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of biomechanics. John Friend is the founder of Anusara Yoga
Iyengar Yoga, modeled after the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, living master of Pune, India, is one of the worlds most widely practiced forms of yoga. The principles are based on Mr. Iyengar's life-long study of the art and science of asana (yoga poses) and pranayama (breathing techniques), emphasizing correct alignment of all parts of the body within each yoga pose. This precision builds strength and stamina balance and flexibility and a new sense of well-being. Postures can be adapted to all students' personal and physical needs through the use of props and a mindful practice. Learning to achieve meditation in action, students learn to exist fully and vibrantly in the present moment.
Ashtanga Yoga vinyasa yoga is a vigorous asana practice designed by Patabhi Jois, a student of Krishnamacharya. It consists of six fixed series of poses, of progressively higher difficulty. The fact that the series of poses is fixed helps to enter a meditative state while practicing. The poses are joined with a series of connecting movements called vinyasa, which is similar to a partial sun salutation. The first or primary series is already quite challenging when practiced in full and is better suited to students in good physical condition. Each student is encouraged to practice part of the primary series according to his or her level of comfort.
Before beginning any exercise program, check with your licensed health care provider.
Red Bank Lunch Break
Ashtanga Yoga is taught in the tradition of living yoga master Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. This method involves a specific sequential and progressive series of postures synchronized with Ujjayi breathing and a gazing point, driste. Ashtanga Yoga is challenging and heat generating.
