Voted readers Choice "Best Golf Course" in the New Jersey Herald 4 years in a row!
Sussex County Chamber of Commerce "Quality in Business, Quality in Living"
Located in beautiful Sussex County, New Jersey, this privately owned 27-hole golf course has been offering some of the most beautiful scenery and challenging golf in Northwest New Jersey for the past 45 years. Approximately an hour outside New York City, Farmstead offers top quality golf, stunning surroundings, delicious food and a caring staff all at reasonable rates. Farmstead is also available for golf outings and banquets of all occasions including weddings.
In 2008 we celebrated our 45th Anniversary. Built and still owned by the Phoebus family, Farmstead is converted from 275 acres of farmland and a 20 acre pond. Its 27 holes offer the scenic beauty of Northwestern New Jersey plus challenging and exciting golf.
The Phoebus' purchased the property in 1961 from the Lydecker family. Abe Lydecker sold the dairy farm to Byron Phoebus who then designed and built the course. In June 1963 nine holes called Clubview opened for $1.50 a round. In 1965 nine more holes were opened creating Lakeview. In January 1974, the only daughter, Gail of Mr. Lydecker married the only son, Robert, of Mr. Phoebus uniting the two families. On July 18th, 1979 the final nine, Valleyview, the shortest but most challenging opened for play. Gail has run the successful food operation while Bob operates and still helps maintain the golf course. Any day you can see any of the family members still participating in the daily operations of the business. The Phoebus' have two daughters who are now becoming involved in carrying on the family business.
Farmstead has grown steadily into one of the finest golf facilities in the Metropolitan area. While serving over 60,000 customers a year, our staff manages to maintain the course to conditions many private clubs would envy.
