We believe that there is no health without mental healthcounseling therapy complementary healing arts
multi-disciplinary treatment collaborative consultation education
One of the first models of integrative mental health in the country, the NJ Center for the Healing Arts integrates counseling and psychotherapy with the best practices of conventional, alternative and complementary medicine. Its model honors the importance of spirituality and community. Though the NJ Center for the Healing Arts celebrates over two decades of practice, it is still considered to be on the "cutting edge" of heathcare.
The guiding philosophy is based on research that confirms that people thrive when invited to participate fully in their own health and healing process. They benefit from sharing their very personal stories that include challenges and celebrations with respect to faith, hope, love, gratitude, and forgiveness. All of these dimensions of being fully human have a direct impact on health.
Those who practice at the NJ Center for the Healing Arts are invested in the future of healthcare. We respect the early foundations of effective healing and health. We engage in ethical practice that is supported by research. We consider possible interactions between biology, psychology, the evironment and social conditions. People are given choices about obtaining optimal health. The body, mind, emotions, and spirit are respected as interconnected dimensions of the whole being. The focus is on enhancement of health, prevention and treatment of illness, and the application of strategies that promote healthy change in the most natural ways possible.
What is "integrative" is inclusive of unconventional and conventional approaches; the goal is not to undermine the role of conventional practice or its medical prescriptions. Rather, it is a way of seeing and treating that takes the safest and most natural path. Sometimes, this requires the skills of conventionally-trained physicians. Other times, it may be best enhanced by Chinese medicine's view of health systems, by the healing hands of a massage therapist, or by the knowlege of a chiropractor.
What makes the NJ Center for the Healing Arts unique is that mental health practitioners oversee the multidisciplinary collaborative team when that method of assessment and/or treatment is elected by the clients and patients who seek care.
