Why diabetes? The Centers for Disease Control estimates that one of every three children born after the year 2000 will get diabetes in their lifetime. For certain ethnicities - that number is 1 of every 2 children. Currently, over 23 million Americans have diabetes and one third of them don’t know it.
“Diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions in this country but is one most preventable diseases through proper nutrition and exercise," explains Satori Academy's Nancy Walzog. "Through our schools, we reach a tremendous amount of young people. If we can provide this vital and potentially lifesaving information to our kids, perhaps we can do our part in combating the alarming rise in childhood obesity and pediatric diabetes cases. Satori Demo Team
Weekly demo practices will be suspended for the fall/winter season. Practices will now only be held 2 weeks before a scheduled performance. Instructors will call all members to inform them of an upcoming demo team appearance and dates and times of practices.
All members of demo team, please continue to practice Combos 1 and 2, Basic Blocking Set and Wind Up at home so you are ready at a moment's notice!

(空手, Karate) (listen (help·info)) or karate-do (空手道, karate-do?) is a martial art developed in the Ryukyu Islands from indigenous fighting methods and Chinese kenpō.

Karate began as a fighting system known as "ti" (or "te") among the pechin class of the Ryukyuans. During the Taira-Minamoto war, some samurai from the Minamoto clan arrived in Okinawa from Japan and became allies with the Ryukyuan nobles.

Gichin Funakoshi interpreted the "kara" of Karatedo to mean "to purge [oneself] of selfish and evil thoughts. For only with a clear mind and conscience can [the practitioner] understand that [knowledge] which he receives."
