of the Intelisano Family"
In 1956, Rudolph L. Intelisano Sr. opened his first of three funeral homes at 109 Howe Avenue, Passaic, NJ. The Intelisano Funeral Home became the new home of Rudolph, his wife Rosemaur, and their two daughters, Teresa and Paula. As the business started to grow, so did their family and soon came the addition of their son, Rudolph Intelisano, Jr. After years of working closely with her husband, Rosemaur decided to return to college and in 1962 she received her funeral directing license.
Rudolph and Rosemaur were very involved in the neighborhood in which they were born and raised and their business became an integral part of the community. Once the business was fully established, they decided that it would be beneficial to relocate the family to Toms River. As time went on, their children began to show an interest in the business which prompted them to open a second location.
In 1973, the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home at 2482 Church Road in Toms River opened its doors. Teresa became a licensed funeral director in 1977 followed by Paula in 1979 and Rudy Jr. in 1981. Eventually Rosemaur became ill and was unable to participate in the family business. On February 4, 1984, she passed away and the the Intelisano family experienced the same loss that they had been helping others to cope with for so many years.
In time, Rudy Sr. decided to expand the business in Northern New Jersey with the purchase of an existing funeral home in Clifton which became the Scarpa-Intelisano Funeral Home. The family now had three locations. After running the two northern sites for a while, Rudy Sr. and Teresa came to the conclusion that it would be better to concentrate on one home in Northern New Jersey so the Passaic location was sold. Ultimately the Clifton location was also sold and the family was brought together in one place. The Intelisano family determined that it was best to work together and focus all of their energy on the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home.
