At Fash-N-Fit Rx Shoes,we have been providing expert shoe fitting, prescription modifications, and custom orthotics since 1985. We have extensive training and experience with diabetic foot problems such as neuropathy and ulceration.
We also specialize in care of the rheumatoid arthritic foot. We commonly treat those with plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, neuromas, tendinitis, knee pain, back pain, leg length differences, post-polio syndrome, club foot, partial amputation, and all athletic injuries.

The importance of the shoe must always be emphasized. Many people come to us with non-supportive footwear, such as sneakers or loafers, and the advice tohave support, orthotics, or modifications added to them. Weakor poorly fitted shoes can not offer any therapeutic benefit, regardless of modifications and additions to the shoe. In fact, the shoe is the most importantfactor! Proper shoes need to have the capacity to hold the heel vertically, in order to hold the foot in orientation over an orthotic insert or arch configuration. The shoe should also have a broad "shank" or midsection to allow proper seating of orthopedic devices. The shank should have ground contact, such that it can not sag under the middle of the arch support. In addition to all of that, the shoe needs to have adequate depth to accommodate internal modifications, and adequate toe space to allow for abduction (or spreading) of the forefoot. After all of those requirements are met, the shoe must then be the correct "last", or shape, for the foot. Determining the proper last requires the most expertise of the entire shoe fitting process. These guidelines apply to the amelioration of any shoe concern.
Wehear a vast array of misinformation, in regards to orthotic inserts, from our clientele regularly! Many have been rushed into "orthotics" very hastily. We explain that the "orthotics" will not work to take away pain, for many reasons. Firstly, most people have a very difficult time attempting to gofrom zero support to maximum support immediately! Gradual introduction of support usually work best. Secondly, arch weakness or deformity is the primary causes of footand knee pain. Therefore, most people are casted for their "orthotics"while their arches arein low or weak position. Their "orthotics" are then made to a cast of their foot in the same position which caused the pain. Adding various wedges and posts can never adjust for the inappropriate casting! The "trick" to getting rid of the pain is to start out with the correct shoes, and modifications. Once the pain subsides, the arches are much closer to their normal position, and will "cast" or mold correctly. Then comes the very important job of the "orthotics". They will maintain the foot in the restored, healthy position so that the original problems do not return! Also, all of our "orthotics" are made on premises, completely custom. "Orthotics" which are obtained through mail order labs areusually composed of prefabricated pieces. Those types of "orthotics" areslightly customized, but not actually custom molded! This only scratches the surface of popular "orthotic" misinformation. Many "orthotics" are made with the wrong materials, and for the wrong reasons ( eg. limb length discrepancies). However, done correctly, "orthotics" can be wonderfully comfortable, liberating, often even life-saving!
Clearly "Pedorthic" techniques can enhance the lives a great variety of people. We can help with problems of the foot, and lower extremity, related to athletics(eg: running, skiing, tennis, soccer, golf, etc.),as well as the arthritis, diabetes, or injuries. Moreover, it is not necessary to have a painful condition in order to benefit from strong shoes, and "orthotics" Just like exercise, and proper nutrition, they will prevent the vast majority of problems! At Fash-n-fit , we take great care to ensure that every phase, from shoe fitting, to "orthotic" fabrication, is comfortable, done gradually, and with innovative technologyinorder to provide the very best pedorthic services available.
