1 Who Is Paula Susan?
live my life as a gift of time; my relationships, my work, every moment has a sacredness to it. So, it follows that I have a deep respect for those who seek my counsel. They care about the quality of their lives, and are willing to do what it takes to achieve that. f you recognize that you are full of anger, anxiety, or have fallen "out of love", or just unhappy... or perhaps you need some clarity before you make a decision, I recommend you don't settle for a "quick fix." If that's all you get, I can promise your problems will show up in some form, again and again. That's why so many people move from therapist to therapist, from crisis to crisis, from relationship to relationship. You need to finish your counseling experience with an understanding of you and your contribution to the issues. If you are not helped to achieve that insight, you are not seeing the whole picture...how and why you interpret things the way you do... You have spent time going to school, reading and learning about the world... do you take the time to look inside you?

o, I encourage you... DO NOT SETTLE FOR MEDIOCRITY... in your life or in your therapist. Before choosing someone to trust with the deepest parts of yourself, interview them... me... for a session. In order to leave a therapy experience worth your time and expense, you should be given the opportunity to take an honest look at your blind spots (we all have them) and the beliefs... those things you build your whole life around... which in many ways have held you hostage to [Next column]

unconscious patterns. That requires seeing a therapist who has done the work for themselves and has the integrity and the courage to share what they see about you. (I have heard therapists say, "I wouldn't tell him that. If I did, I would lose him as a patient." Well, to me that is not integrity. When we tell our clients the truths we see from our schooled and experienced perspective, we enable them to grow beyond their limited thinking and their defenses. Change IS possible, and it doesn't hurt or take so long, when the path is offered with respectful kindness. love this life-work I have chosen... the privilege I have to enhance the well-being of those who seek my help. You deserve nothing less from a therapist! Because of my deep philosophical commitment, many of my clients have actually transformed their lives in ways that they could have never imagined. I have helped revitalize dead-marriages. I have helped build confidence and self-respect where there were none. I have helped heal deep wounds... My work gives meaning to my life and I take it very seriously. And, I have fun with my clients, too. We rarely miss the opportunity to find humor to help us keep perspective!
