Are you interested joining Pitman United Methodist Church?
Join the class which began on September 19th. Class meets at 9:20 AM between worship services in the conference room. Membership will be on Sunday, December 12, 2010. Please pray about this invitation and if interested, contact the church office.

Volunteers needed in PUMCs Education Department ASAP:
In order to comply with our Safe Sanctuaries policy, these vacancies still need to be filled by September: *a teacher for the newly established first-grade class, *a shepherd for the first-grade class,Please prayerfully consider offering your time and talents to teach or shepherding our children. See Carol Fox with questions or if interested.

A group of us are braving the early morning hours every Wednesday to meet in the Chapel at 6:00 AM to start our day with prayer. Soak in the beauty of the stained glass window, take comfort in the fellowship of others in prayer, rejoice in the shared celebrations and then depart to begin your day with His Spirit, love and grace. All are welcome!
Come pray with us for the future of the church (the vision) in the chapel @ 8:30 AM every Saturday. Pray for God to do mighty works in our congregation. Pray for those who need healing, our government (local, state, and national), our troops serving abroad, for our Stephen's Ministry sister church, our youth and our children. All are welcome.

Beginning October 10, join us in worship as Rev. Dr. Lawrence H. Potts does a sermon series entitled Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. Our nation is experiencing what many have described as the American Nightmare. Increasing consumer debt, declines in savings, lower income growth, rising housing costs, and a volatile stock market are all contributing to economic insecurity. We live in a society that tells us you deserve it now, whether or not we can afford it or really even need it.

Come explore what the Bible teaches us about financial management. Well look at what others have learned by working through financial challenges and watch some informative video clips. Each week tools will be provided that will help to assess your financial situation and develop a financial plan with a biblical foundation.

The end of the study will coincide with our 125th Anniversary Celebration. Please set aside time to participate in the study and especially the Celebration.

Boy Scouts of America/Cub Scouts
Did you know that B.S.A. Troop 55 & Cub Pack 218 meet at our church on Mondays, 7 - 8:30 PM in Fellowship Hall & the Gathering Room. For more information, contact Troop 55 at Troop55@PitmanUMC.org and Cub Pack 218@cubscouts@pitmanumc.org.

Scouts will be recognized with badges of rank and merit badges earned in the past 6 months.

Scouts will distribute bags Saturday November 13 and return Saturday November 20 to pick up donations of non perishable food items. All donations will serve local needy families through the church and the Pitman Food Pantry.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink." (Matt 25:34, NIV)

Due to the difficult economic situation, the Pitman Pantry is once again in desperate need of food. The shelves are empty! Suggestions include pasta, cereal, canned goods, peanut butter, & jelly. The Pitman Pantry provided bags of food to over 8200 people this past year. Your donations made this possible. Place your non-perishable food items in the shopping cart which is located in the hallway to the Fellowship Hall. Thank you!

PALS (Praying, Acting, Losing, Sharing) Continues to Loose!
Interested in losing some weight? If so, come join us at PALS on Mondays at 6:30 PM. PALS is a weight loss support group which meets once a week for about 45 minutes. We use prayer, scripture, accountability, and sharing information to help each other lose weight. Males and females are welcome. You do not have to be a member of our church to join. There will be a one time $10 registration fee.

The lesson begins with prayer concerns, a devotion concerning weight-loss and a mini-lesson. Then we celebrate our weight-loss. If you have any questions or would like additional information send an e-mail to PALS@Pitmanumc.org. PALS meets on Monday nights @ 6:30 PM in the Scout Room.

Letter Read Sept. 12
Rev. Dr. Lawrence Potts read this letter in church Sunday morning, Sept. 12, in response to the Koran burning controversy of Sept. 11.

Wesleyan Fasting Society...The Wesleyan Fasting Society is a small group in our church which seeks to grow in our commitment to God by starting each month with a 24 hour period of fasting and prayer.
The fast typically begins after breakfast on Saturday and ends when we share in the Lord's Supper during the worship service on Sunday. Instead of eating Saturday's lunch and dinner and Sunday's breakfast, we gather in the chapel for prayer. It's an awesome opportunity to grow closer to God, and it's open to anyone who wants to take part (by praying- with or without fasting).
= = = JOIN US FOR THE NEXT FASTING WEEKEND --> October 2 - 3 = = =

Jesus calls us to fast... discover how this act binds us closer to Him. For more information, contact Bret Walker at fasting@pitmanumc.org.

Deborah Slenkamp, the director, welcomes any questions and is available to give a tour to anyone who might be interested. Contact her at debbieslenkamp@pitmanumc.org or call 856-589-5812. Questions concerning the program can be directed to ourfathershouse@pitmanumc.org.

As we have seen over and over again in our "Treasures of the Transformed Life" study, a critical aspect of our growth in the Christian life is to dive into the Word.
What better way to help you study the Bible at home or on the go than using computer bible software to look up verses and information. One of the products on the market is Logos Bible Software which is used by our own Rev. Dr. Lawrence H. Potts. Check it out and see if you're interested.

We are excited about many opportunities for outreach and Christian growth and want to best utilize our facility. Now is the time to identify the groups, studies, and committees that will meet and their facility needs (day, time, & room). If your group will meet in the church, please complete the Building Use Form. The Building Use Form is also available in the church office and in the mailboxes. Please complete and leave it in the office for or email it to Nancy Walters.

Find us on Facebook
We are now on Facebook. Multiple groups have been set up in Facebook to communicate the happenings of our youth, our young adults, the Wesleyan Fasting Society, the men ("Band of Brothers"), and the church. The church group is used to share prayer concerns and relate how God is working in your life (the God-prints).

Take a Tour of Our New Building...
Five years ago, a fire destroyed our historic church building in the center of Pitman. During our years of transition after the fire, we met in a school, a theater, and a converted hardware store. But our period of wandering ended in July 2007 when we moved into our new building .
Our church is now located at the corner of Lambs Road and Broadway in Pitman (758 N. Broadway). The building features a 620 seat sanctuary, a fellowship hall with a stage and full kitchen, and a two story education / administration wing. We also have on site parking and full accessibility (ground floor entry to the sanctuary with an elevator to the upper floor of the educational wing).
