The introduction of robotic-assisted surgical systems in minimally invasive surgery has opened a new door into the medical future. Minimally invasive surgery provides freedom from the fear or large surgical scars and painful recoveries, as has traditionally been the case for many procedures. The da Vinci Surgical System has revolutionized general and bariatric surgery and created an intuitive approach to complex surgery.
What is The “da Vinci” System
The “da Vinci” Surgical System enables our surgeons to perform delicate and complex operations through only a few small incisions. Although similar to laparoscopic surgery, the robotic platform takes minimally invasive surgery to the next level by creating broader anatomical access through advanced 3D HD imaging and more refined movements with greater range of motion. The robotic system enables surgeons to reach new heights in precision and accuracy. What does this all mean for the patient? It means that our surgeons are able to provide better and safer operations under circumstances that may otherwise be considered complex or challenging. In other words, no operation is too difficult for Advanced Surgical & Bariatrics of NJ.
“Robotic Surgery” Clarification
Despite the “da Vinci” surgical system being referred to within the general term of “robotic surgery”… it is a bit of a misnomer. The robotic surgery term may leave the reader with the impression that the “da Vinci” system is performing the surgery autonomously. This would truly be an impressive spectacle. However, the current “da Vinci” system cannot function on its own in any manner. It is entirely reliant upon the expertise of the surgeon. The “da Vinci” surgical system has not been designed to perform autonomously nor does it have any surgical decision making software. So throughout the entire process, the surgeon will remain in 100% control. The robotic platform should be viewed as an extension of the surgeon’s own hands.
