Homeowners start to think about roof changes that they can make to their property to help keep it looking fresh and modern. A few of those roofing trends for you to consider.

Every time a new year rolls around, homeowners start to think about changes that they can make to their property to help keep it looking fresh and modern. There are a number of ways to make that happen, but changes to the roof often make one of the biggest splashes. Whether you need to hire a roof contractor out of necessity, or purely for aesthetic reasons, you will want to choose one that is up to date with the roofing trends in 2015. Here are just a few of those trends for you to consider

Color
Many homeowners play with color by making changes to the siding, the trim, and even the front door of their property. These are all good ways to add a little splash of fresh, but making color changes to your roof makes the biggest splash of all. You will likely have to check with your homeowners association before going all out with a roof color change, but if you do get the all clear, here are the colors that are trending with roof contractors in 2015

  • Gray - Far and away the most popular of the color choices this year, both inside as well as out. The neutral tone delivered by gray makes it the perfect complement to a wide variety of hues used on other parts of the home exterior.
  • Dark Blue - This color option is similar to grey in that darker tones seem to be what is trending at the moment. Again, this is a color that works well with neutral tones used on the exterior.
  • Deep Green - There is a move towards a natural look that blends in with the surroundings, which makes this color a perfect choice.

Environmentally Friendly Roofing
There is a double benefit the homeowner gets from going with this type of roofing. The most obvious is reducing their carbon footprint, while the other has to do with the potential for saving energy in the home. Using recycled materials is incredibly friendly to the environment, whilst the addition of integrated photovoltaic roofing will help with the energy reduction.

Metal
One of the most common requests that a roofing contractor can expect to get in 2015 is for roofs that have a metal construction. Once pretty much reserved for commercial properties, metal is now making the rounds in residential areas, especially in places where the elements can be more than a little harsh. These types of roofs are also considered to be environmentally friendly, as well as being strong, durable, and usually able to hold up for anywhere from 40-60 years.

Laminated Asphalt Shingles
Back in 2000, the average roofing contractor would be asked to use these shingles about 40% of the time. It is believed that percentage will climb to about 85% in 2015. Not only are these types of shingles more aesthetically pleasing than the standard variety, they also have a life cycle that is about twice as long as your garden variety shingle. That's a win/win scenario for homeowners.
